Title: 5 years, who'd have thunk it
Post by: Max414 on December 29, 2017, 09:41:26 am
At 9.53 pm last night I completed 5 years since last smoking  :foundbeer: :foundbeer:
I can honestly say the days, weeks and months roll by now with no thought whatsoever of smoking-they say time is the greatest healer and it truly is  008 008

Thanks people xx
And how odd it is,that one of THE greatest gifts that we can give ourselves,to so greatly aid our health our wealth and our peace of mind, involves simply NOT doing something.  :foundbeer: There are deep philosophical implications in that.

@tea yes... Dear Tea I walked down my road in Feb and March of 2013,smelling the hedgerows, smelling the glorious scents of Spring in the bushes and buds  welcoming back my darling long-lost sense of smell that by some miracle had returned to me   :D I felt reborn and I knew, that I would not smoke again. It was a wonderful revelation and I cherish the memory of it  :foundbeer:

@Netty thank you! I will join you at the bar in the very very swish 5 year rooms, you look so at home here!!! x
@Skiddaw what wonderful words Sam..thank you!! x

Wow @Max414  - 5 years....how time flies, although I still remember it well, I was starting my first quit just after you reached the Penthouse, so had been lurking.....your quit, your attitude to it, your support once you kicked the monster into touch, was and is, inspirational! Obviously I have been dragging my heels a wee bit, (naughty step for me!) but thanks to you I am now firmly on that freedom march. Huge congratulations, and my heartfelt thanks.

Sorry to be so late dear heart, between two versions of the lurgy and all the festivities I've been AWOL far too long!

It really felt as though there was no doubt that you would make it, you already had such conviction when I came along and yet you were only that month ahead of me.  You ploughed ahead, offering encouragement, advice and support to all and sundry and it made all the difference in the world to me to be able to follow in your wake.

So from your padawan learner:

I love that you, I and Angela are all still in touch and all still free (my cousin has put herself back under the stinky yellow thumb after 6 years of freedom) and I don't think I shall ever take it for granted - it's too precious!

My God, imagine going back to smoking after 5 or 6 years, What prompted your cousin to do that I wonder Kat 001
Just shows, those defensive shields must always be up.

One thing I loved on New year's eve was that my mobile app told me that at last I was 100% back to having the same risk of developing lung cancer as someone who has never smoked, i like that thought  004

5 years for back to same risk of lung cancer as a never smoker? Im hope you dont think im peeing on your parade but you reckon thats true? Id read its 15 years quit and you have same as 'never smoked' lungs. My primary goal here is to eradicate the risk of lung cancer and if u can do that in five years as opposed to fifteen - ill take your stats over mines  :)

So @Max414  you have achieved much more than i imagined. You are exactly where i want to be. And i am delighted i can achieve my goal in ten years less than i thought ha! So well done again and thanks v much for sharing that info.

I share your doubt GG. It doesn't seem right to be only 5 years- and I would guess at 10 years plus but hey-that's what the App said so it might be right, and it feels very pleasant to actually be at 5 years and have this particular factoid to wrestle with   :foundbeer:
By the way GG why are you not playing our daily quizzes,it's where all the smart people show off their mettle  :foundbeer:

Lets just believe the app too PMA

I wondered if it would be on our 5th quitiversary that it would get to that stage, it's been tiptoeing closer and closer the last few months.  As for Samantha, her husband has continued to smoke, as do many of their friends and I don't think I'd have been able to sustain a quit when everyone I spent time with was puffing away.
