It's Been Almost Two Years Now
« on: February 08, 2020, 01:47:33 am »
If you happen to look at my posting history you'll see that my last post was almost two years ago when I had only been a quitter for one month.

That was in April of 2018.

I did visit and keep up on the posts here regularly though.
I had nothing interesting to contribute ... until now!

This April I will Be "Two Years" .. Smoke Free!!

I am sad to report that I still have one problem that wont go away. 8-(

To those who didn't see any of my posts ...

After smoking for 50 years I just quit!
It really wasn’t all that difficult.

The “after meals” and “with a beer or coffee urges” go away if you fight them off for 5 minutes.
(A glass of water when getting the urge helped me)

Want some reasons to quit and stay quit?

I get out of breath just walking up my stairs to get to the bedroom!
Can barely stand for longer than 5 minutes without labored breathing.

Now for what I call the worst ... Smoking also did something to my sense of smell!

I live with the odor of a kind of wet, burnt wood smell!

Sometimes the odor is so strong that it’s almost as if I am breathing smoke.
(Makes it hard to fall asleep at night when this occurs)

Food no longer taste as it should either because of the odor.

'That' is the problem that has never gone away!

For new to quitting folks, if you have no other reason to quit .. Losing your sense of smell and having it replaced with a permanent and terrible odor should scare you to death!

Steak no longer taste .. like steak.
(No food or drink tastes as it should)

Roses no longer smell like roses!
(Again, No aroma's are unaffected)

It is a terribly high price to pay for smoking!

Please, never give up in your quest to be Smoke Free!

@mrclose , two years is a WONDERFUL achievement!! You've done so well to carry on quitting.... ;D 008 :foundbeer: :foundbeer: :foundbeer:

It's a shame about your sense of smell/taste. I suppose it is definitely related to the smoking? I only ask because my husband had a similar problem which proved to be a result of nasal polyps. Once they were removed (and he was given a spray which he has to use daily to prevent them returning) he was able to smell and taste things again. Might be worth getting it checked out possibly?

Anyway, so pleased to see you again and to hear you've been totally and utterly successful in your battle against the Demon Nic... :vader: :vader: :)
Finally saw sense on 8/12/13

So many mountains, so little time...

Oh I am so lucky. I did have a terrible problem in the first eeek or so and everything tasted of poop; literally it tasted like I was eating manure. Turned out to be a really nasty throat infection so everything went back to normal and then some (oranges and mangos) got better than ever.

Pleased to hear that you’ve done 2 years so far @mrclose and I hope that there are many more to come.

Well done on two years, definitely have that smell thing checked out by a doctor though as I have to say I haven't ever heard of that side effect before.  008
Smoked for most of my adult life (and a fair bit of my childhood!).  Managed a two year quit 2014-2016 but started again!  Quit again on 6th January 2018 and lasted 7 months!  Third quit lucky 21/11/2018!
