6 Years
« on: December 28, 2018, 01:55:12 pm »
Tonight, at 10.28pm, it will be precisely 6 years since I last smoked  :foundbeer:
I can hardly explain, how amazing that is for me.
I am the one who not only could never quit, but never really tried properly to quit. :-[

It was joining the old forum on the British Heart Foundation, going to the No smoking nurse at the Dr's surgery, and seeing a close friend suffer lung cancer, which inspired me this time around. But mostly, it was the amazing people on that forum; too many to mention by name, who through the care they extended and the encouragement they offered, helped me to at long last break the curse of smoking  008 Many of those amazing people are still here, on this forum and to you I offer a heartfelt thanks , because I am now FREE. I know I will never smoke again  ;D If you are a visitor, cruising this forum and not sure whether to take the plunge and end smoking then can I suggest that you dive in and make 2019 the year that you took back control of your life!!! Trust me, the water is wonderful !!!!

Wow, 6 years is brilliant @Max414 and you are such a help and inspiration to many others on their quit journeys.  :foundbeer:
Smoked for most of my adult life (and a fair bit of my childhood!).  Managed a two year quit 2014-2016 but started again!  Quit again on 6th January 2018 and lasted 7 months!  Third quit lucky 21/11/2018!

This is an unbelievably brilliant effort, well done.
35 years a smoker until Bastille Day 2018, now a smoker who is choosing not to smoke for the foreseeable future

Big congratulations Quit Daddy. We are very lucky to have you to show us all how it's done. For any one wanting to cement their quit he is your go to man for good advice and he's also good at tough love when it's warranted, because he really does want you to succeed.

Dear Penthouse Doorman,

You've been there since I took my first, uncertain steps. I remember I was SO envious of your Penthouse arrival shortly after I quit and couldn't imagine I'd ever make it there myself. Without your unfailing support and shining example I'm sure that I and many others wouldn't have succeeded in following your blazing path.

@Max414 you're a star in SO many ways! Well done in spades.... ;D 008 007 :foundbeer: :foundbeer:
Finally saw sense on 8/12/13

Thank you all so much for kind words  006  I would never be sitting here, feeling so proud of myself, were it not for the support, encouragement and humour of you guys X

Of course, we all take this journey in different ways, but the important thing is that we DO take the journey to quit and we do persevere until we succeed:hug:
The thought of still being a smoker is a very scary thought  :-\

Let's all try to reach out in 2019 to those lovely people out there who are still smoking, or vaping maybe, but no longer wish to be slaves to this whole thing of sucking chemicals into our precious, delicate, pink lungs  :o

If you are out there-join us  008

wow 6 years, what a mile stone for you @Max414 . I too was a total addict, loved it and couldnt get enough of it but my leg had other ideas so i reluctantly turned to this forum and bumped into you and many others who steered me to my final quit when all was falling apart at 30 days and i have never looked back.My brother and my friend also quit last year after watching me so thats 3 people you have saved.Anybody thinking of quitting should listen to the poor bloke outside the Legion on thursday night coughing his lungs up,its keeps me well any from smoking.Keep doing what you do on here Max,your what we want to be,smoke free. ;D
Quit 16th November 2017.
Last smoke 21st November 2017.
Trigger word...LEG.

Six years for me too this Christmas (Christmas eve for me) and it’s been great to share the journey with you.  Agree with your comments about the BHF forum - a great place and such a shame for people quitting now that it is no longer there.

I honestly wonder whether, if I had missed joining the BHF forum, I would have achieved what I did. :P  Quite an exceptional, once in a lifetime place.
