I'm a tad late!
« on: January 28, 2018, 08:58:33 pm »
Well, the witching hour struck and I was still hoovering, hardly what I had originally planned!

For those not in the know, tonight I celebrate my fifth quitiversary.  I had hoped to treat myself to a nice meal out with my family but having not been so well this past week I didn't dare book it and have consoled myself by buying steak and kidney pudding and chips on the way home after church (good northern nosh!).

I think the one thing that means the very most to me about being free is the removal of that constant feeling of needing to have my next cigarette, when would I next have an opportunity, did I have enough, would I be able to get to a shop, had I enough money, etc, etc.  Until you're free of it you don't really realise just how badly enslaved you were.  Above all, to go weeks and months at a time without the thought ever occurring to me is UTTER BLISS!!!!!

So I am going to be terribly wasteful, open myself a bottle and raise a glass to

@Glasgowgal  Thank you sweetpea!  Yes, he is exactly one month ahead of me and pulled me through some very tough times so, much as I want to give him a clip around the earhole every once in a while, he remains my beloved Maxwell  :)  I was blessed to make some really wonderful friends when I quit, many of whom I have since had the privilege of meeting, it's definitely a side benefit I never imagined but have been oh so very grateful for.

@LAST CHANCE SALOON, bless you, imagine you coming across that today?!  I used to drive them nuts by refusing to post my milestones until it was actually the right time of day, I was forever being told off for it!  Bless you, it's been my privilege to stick around, I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would NOT have succeeded if it were not for the wonderful people who supported me and I made a promise to myself that I would do my best to give the same help and support to others.  And hey, what could be more rewarding than seeing other folk fight their way out from under the stinky yellow thumb to freedom?!

Thank you my sweet   And yes, you got it right!  Wonder where the phrase comes from?  It's a northern thing I think, but I have no idea of its origin.

Forgive me for posting twice on here on this thread but this success for you Kathyrn really does mark a Golden Day  004

You and I Kat go right back to the start of 2013,when we were both newbies on the British Heart Foundation forums-(which to new members on here,is where the founders of this forum met and made such rich friendships ) Sadly the BHF forums closed,or were modded into something crappy, but many of us on here were banned from there after falling out with some very stupid moderators. Anyway,I remember the early days of those forums and I remember how wonderful it felt to be swept up in this great tide of quitters,of whom Kat was one. We became great friends and messaged each other every day as we battled the curse -it was almost a romance  :-* :-* But we leaned on each other, and the days ticked into weeks and we both realised that we had only gone and DONE IT-broken Nicdemon and his demonic hold over us  004

Quitting cigs is very tough but yields a fabulous and endless feeling of pride and achievement  and for you Kathryn, this is indeed a massive success as I know very well what difficult times you have endured over the past 5 years. Nobody would have blamed you,had you despaired and reached for a cig. But you have held the line against troubling times, and this is a measure of you as a person-gorgeous,funny,crazy,larger than life and with a caring and loving nature that is completely unquenchable.

I raise a glass to you,and congratulate you  !!!!! XXXX
