Day 17
« on: January 23, 2018, 07:30:23 pm »
Day 17 and doing ok. I decided to volunteer in a local charity shop to keep myself busy as I am between jobs at the moment and today I started my new position and am chuffed to say it went well. Staff are all lovely, a little bit bonkers and it was just good to have a giggle. I am still eating mints, sour jelly beans and firesticks from M&S which are so tangy and really hit the spot. My mood has been very flat since I quit but the tears that plagued me in the first few days have stopped. I watched the advert for BT mobile where the young mum is on the bus on her way home from her job as a nurse and her other half face times her with their daughter taking her 1st steps and it made me sob !!! but not no more so very pleased about that. Our home is becoming cleaner than it has ever been, the car doesn't stink and I don't stink. I happen to be very proud of myself kk

Brilliant post @Gerti1 , lovely and positive. My house is cleaner too, we have so much more time when we don't smoke  :)
Smoked for most of my adult life (and a fair bit of my childhood!).  Managed a two year quit 2014-2016 but started again!  Quit again on 6th January 2018 and lasted 7 months!  Back on the wagon again now...........

Attagirl! :foundbeer:

Great to hear the tears have dried up, it's tough enough as it is without turning into a watering can!

I went to my volunteer job for the second time today.  As you say, it's good to have a giggle with folk AND achieve something useful.

You are doing so well Gerti and good for you for volunteering in your local charity shop.  Keeping yourself busy, socialising and helping a charity and doing it all as a non smoker.  Very well done.
After far too many years I stubbed out my final cigarette on February 6 2011 at 10 pm and havent looked back since.

You're doing just great keep going  :).  I volunteer too, I work with vulnerable and intimidated witnesses, its very rewarding. I saw the Cadbury ad last night and it's lovely look out for it.

I think you're a total star @Gerti1 . As for all you volunteers- any organisation would be very lucky to have you on board.  :)
Finally saw sense on 8/12/13

Off out to Portsmouth with friends today for a nice meal and a good chin wag. Some are smokers and some are not but I am not too fussed as I don't seem to get tempted in the early days when my resolve is high. I am also planning on making not 1 but 2 cakes at the weekend, a chocolate one and a lemon drizzle, they will both be out of a betty crocker packet as they never seem to go wrong. Still going strong on 14 mg patch and I may start reducing very slowly once I hit the month mark but I will evaluate my mood 1st and make a plan
Hope everyone is doing well :)

Enjoy your meal out Gerti.  I love Portsmouth (my son was at Uni there).  I never missed a shopping trip to Gunwharf and I even braved the glass floor at the top of Spinnaker tower.

Mmmmm......... Lemon drizzle cake sounds lush

Sounds good Gerti  ;) I dont think ive been to Portsmouth, actually I might have got the ferry from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight!  I would love to live on the coast. Well have fun and hope the cakes turn out ok.  I've booked my holiday for end of May, Lanzagrotty, so no cake for me for the foreseeable  :P

Have a lovely day @Gerti1 , I love Portsmouth too, my brother used to live in Old Portsmouth years ago so visited many times.  There are some nice shops, will you be treating yourself?

Well done on day 19.  Don't worry too much about the patches at the moment, you aren't smoking and that's a million times better than when you were.

Have fun baking cakes too - I used to enjoy making cupcakes and I made my sons 18th birthday cake (I think that was what put me off as it was too big and too much hard work! 007
