Hi All!

I very much hope this post doesn't come across as spammy, especially as it comes from the intention of trying to find new and easy ways to help people quit smoking.

I am seeking volunteers to participate in an experiment testing a new computer-based (inhibition) training method to reduce cigarette consumption. Participation is entirely online and takes 5-10 minutes a day for seven days. Y

ou are required to be over 18, have access to an internet-connected PC or Laptop (as the training task requires the use of a keyboard) and to currently smoke or use an e-cigarette once a day.

@nm311 - do you want to add your data protection and ethics information to give potential participants some extra information. We do sometimes get spam and I've followed your link to your a university's site but it might give people more resssurance and increase your participation rate if you give some more information.....

Of course!

This study has been approved by the University of Exeter's Ethical Committee (chair contact: Lisa.leaver@exeter.ac.uk). All data will be kept securely and confidentially and will not be shared with anyone outside of the research team. Your responses will not be identifiable in any related presentations or publications of results.

This research is not funded and forms the basis for my MSc dissertation. The rationale behind the study utilises an inhibition training technique that has found to benefit junk food and alcohol consumption but has not yet been tested with cigarettes.

If you have any questions please let me know as I will be more than happy to answer.

Just in the interests of fairness, this was part of a medical research study for a student's thesis originally posted 3 months ago.

Hi All,

Thanks for your interest, I can confirm that I am still looking for participants.

My supervisor has gotten in touch with me about your email @Max414 and has advised me that Ducan from the Press Office should be getting back to you so apologies if this has not yet happened.

For any queries feel free to email me directly at nm311@exeter.ac.uk. I have been trying to resolve the insecure message that comes up on the website but it appears to be something to do with the WIX site hosting - any advice on how to resolve this would be much appreciated but I can assure you that your emails are taken only to send you the survey link and are stored securely for the duration of the study only (unless you opt in to be invited for future research).
